Why choose Psychotherapy?
Sometimes in life we can find ourselves in a situation where we need to talk to someone in absolute confidence, without feeling judged or being advised. During these times we will often find it difficult to go to family, friends or other people in our community.

We may come to realize that we have encountered a situation again and again and that the outcomes end always in a similar way, that leaves us unhappy or dissatisfied and with the feeling of needing help to disentangle our thoughts or feelings from our experiences.
In situations where we suffer loss, trauma, abuse or profound unhappiness we need someone who listens to us, who can provide clarity and understanding. In times when we feel we get little understanding or not feeling met in our needs to be listened to or be seen for who we feel we are, we may find the right support in psychotherapy.
Talking to a psychotherapist / counsellor can help us in our search for a solution to our situation.
In psychotherapy we can experience support in learning about ourselves, our relationships and our need for boundaries. We are facilitated in exploring ways of who we are, and where we are in the present, what works and what needs to change to make room for change to begin to trust and belief into our innermost selves. We can explore our relationships to others; we can explore a past that keeps us bound; we can experience empathy and genuine regard and respect in the healing process.
A psychotherapist has undergone a long training and learned about the human condition to be open, non-judgmental and unconditional to the experience of life in many individual ways.
The process of psychotherapy is different to the process of counselling. In counselling the emphasis is less on our unconscious and is focused more on exploring present life situations and experiences, looking for a practical, applicable solution and to have a better understanding of ourselves.
In psychotherapy the deep unconscious drives and motivations, the connections between our emotions, the ways of sensory processing and thinking parts of our brain are looked at and explored in the therapeutic process, as we all have the underlying reasons and experiences that have influenced our lives and life-scripts and shaped our awareness about ourselves.
The psychotherapist is in close contact with a supervisor to facilitate the mental and emotional processes that the therapist experiences during sessions and the impact it has on the therapist and his/her/their work.

FAQs
How do I know I need counseling or psychotherapy?
The reasons a person decides to seek counseling and psychotherapy is diverse and very personal.
Counseling and psychotherapy is not only for situations of crisis or despair. Sometimes we find it difficult to make sense and adapt to situations we experience in life.
How do I begin?
You can contact me by phone or send me an email. I will return your call or email and discuss with you briefly the reasons for getting in touch and what you can expect in your first visit. This is done in complete confidentiality.
What happens when I am late?
The appointment we have agreed upon is your time and is kept for you. It will end also at the appointed time.
What is your cancellation policy?
If a client needs to cancel a session it is important to contact me immediately. My cancellation policy includes the full fee payable if the cancellation is given within 24 hours before the scheduled appointment time.
After the 3rd consecutive cancellation, the appointed time and day will need to be re-negotiated
Am I covered by health insurance?
Presently psychotherapy and counselling is not generally covered by health insurances or by medical card. However some health insurance companies may offer a partial cover or contribution towards your session fees.
How many sessions will I need?
That depends on the individual client and the issues that are involved. Usually this question is addressed in the first session and reviewed on a regular basis.
How long does a session last?
A session lasts 50 to 60 minutes.
How much does a session cost?
My fee is €80 per face to face session for adolescents; for adults the fee is €70. For online sessions the fee is €65. However situations of financial hardship can be discussed and accommodated in individual cases.
How often will I attend a counselor or psychotherapist?
Ideally you would meet with your therapist once a week as this helps towards building the relationship between client and therapist and also maintains continuous work with your issues. It allows you to integrate and process what happened during the session.
In terms of crisis however more frequent contact may become necessary for a short time.
Adolescent clients often come fortnightly to accommodate their age and circumstance of commitments.
Is therapy confidential?
Counseling and Psychotherapy is confidential in almost all situations that occur in the counselling room.
In situations were the physical, intellectual and emotional well-being and integrity of the client is deemed to be at risk or has been in the past, ethical and legal obligations need to be considered. For example the Child Protection Act for children and minors. Confidentiality will always be addressed throughout.
